RECOGNIZE THAT YOU ARE A SINNER

The Bible says that every person is born in a state of sin. Sin is an attitude that resists God’s will and causes us to avoid Him. So first, you must admit your spiritual need. Romans 3:10 tells us “None is righteous, no, not one.” We can’t make excuses or blame others and our circumstances for our actions. Romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

RECOGNIZE THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS FOR YOU

Jesus allowed Himself to be crucified to take care of our sin problem. Romans 6:23 says “For the wages (payment) of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." The penalty for our sins is being eternally separated from God. Jesus took the penalty of our sins upon Himself. 1 Peter 3:18 says: “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God...” Jesus paid the price for your sin.

REPENT OF YOUR SINS

The word “repent” means “to change your direction.” The Bible tells us in Acts 3:19-20, "Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord..." God commands us to turn away from our sinful lifestyle and turn toward Him. You must be willing to turn away from the things that displease God, stop trying to avoid Him, and invite Him into your life.

ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOR AND LORD

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” It is essential that you come to Jesus as you are. Don’t try to “clean up your life” before you come to God. Instead, receive Him and allow Him to do the “cleansing.”
